Love for Literature

One of my goals as a mother, teacher, counselor, missionary and women's speaker is not only to instill an understanding of how to read, but to develop a love for literature. My children fondly remember as we read great books of literature together each evening. Often, we would laugh, fear, cry, become excited, and sometimes even fall asleep during these stories. We travelled the world in our books as we travelled the world in reality. We read of the American prairie while in France, of Scotland while in Switzerland, of Mordor and Middle-Earth while in Africa, and Narnia while in Canada. Today, Heather has a library that boasts a thousand and a half volumes, Valinda is rarely seen without a book in her hand, and Tim has piles of magazines and books to fit his interests. Our children have far surpassed us in their love and understanding of literature and we have learned much from their insights.

You forgot to put as Grandmother because I'm your grandaughter. But I still love books too. -Michelle :)

Of course, our favorite part of storytime growing up was when you fell asleep reading to us and started making up the story. We laughed so hard but tried to stay quiet so you wouldn't wake up. We wanted to hear what you would come up with when you were asleep. You still do that when you read outloud. :) Thank you for instilling in me a love for literature.

What great memories! We have traveled many places, both in reading and in real life.
